Free Filmmaker Resources You Should Know About
Filmmaking is probably one of the most expensive ventures you could undertake. I always say this jokingly, but really I’m dead serious, “There are a million other things you could do if you just want to make money.” If you are in this thing to get your 15-seconds of fame, or you think you’ll be brushing shoulders with the uber rich, get into crypto-currency influencer instead.
Certainly there is money to be made, but it costs more to do if you have no connections and you - like many of us - are pulling yourself up from the bootstraps.
That said, as I’ve undertaken my own film journey I’ve found some pretty rad resources to help my fellows in the film industry (hopefully) get a leg up:
Studio Binder: Studio binder is a software company specializing in film. Their focus is to streamline communication in the filmmaking process.
In addition to their software, they provide educational videos on filmmaking essentials like:
TV Writing & Development Masterclass
Making It: Pre-Production to Post
Advanced Filmmaking Technique for Directors & Writers
And, Free E-books like:
A filmmakers guide to shooting schedule.
How to use script breakdowns in film.
How to use color in film
They also have an informative blog.Ghetto Film School:
It’s all in the name, Ghetto Film helps up-and-coming filmmakers get job placements and get into fellowships. They provide online-virtual workshops with people who are in the industry, they provide a place where you can apply for writing contests, and apprenticeships.
Apply hereWriter Duet:
Here’s the caveat. The free version only allows you to write two scripts, after that you have to get a subscription. However, if you’re trying to figure out whether you’re a writer or not, this is a great way to test the water without paying $249 for final draft.
As always, if you have any more questions or are looking for specific resources, feel free to reach out to stephanie@nourmal.com.
That’s a wrap and happy filmmaking!
